FT: Germany was not warned by the U.S. about the sale of the country’s third-largest bank.
JPMorgan Chase bankers, who advised the German government to sell its stake in Commerzbank, didn’t inform German authorities that they had invited the Italian financial group UniCredit to participate in the deal. According to the publication, Germany discovered that its bank was being sold to the Italians only on the day of the auction and was “furious” with this decision. After all, a strategically important bank for the nation’s economy was being transferred to foreign ownership.
